April 19th to June 15th, 2008

In 2005 the offices of the AIVD (the Dutch Intelligence and Security Services of the Netherlands) were to be renovated and relocated. With this renewal, the occasion presented itself to commission an artist to make a new work for the AIVD building. The Organization used this moment as a possibility to help to improve and create a positive image of The Organization in society, or as stated in the description of the commission, 'to provide the AIVD with a human face.' The commission was granted to Jill Magid.

Over the last three years Jill Magid has conducted numerous interviews with AIVD agents. These conversations took place in bars and non-descript public places. The purpose of these meetings was for Magid to collect personal data of the employee and to use this information to locate the organization's face. The results of these interviews are the newly produced works that make up Article 12. Each one reveals specific characteristics of the participating AIVD agents but never disclose their identities entirely.

Some of the works will be on permanent display in the new AIVD building.

In collaboration with the AIVD, the General Intelligence and Security Service of the Netherlands. Curated by Huib Haye van der Werf at www.stroom.nl.
